The Zurich Arboretum is a beautiful park, only 4 minutes walk from the FIFA Hotel Ascot. It is part of the quay complex inaugurated in 1887 and is largely in its original state. Today, Zurich residents use the Arboretum with its large beautiful meadows as a leisure facility, for strolling and swimming, or to visit the rock collection, Zurich's first Alpine panorama or the aviary.
Lake Baths Enge
The unique lake bath Enge is only 6 minutes' walk from the FIFA Hotel Ascot. A visit is not only worthwhile in summer for swimming or stand-up paddling, but also in winter, when the sauna at the lake offers a very special Zurich experience with a view of the beautiful Alpine panorama.
Boat Trips on Lake Zurich
Discovering Zurich from the lake and the many differing theme boats is especially exciting: There are brunch boats and disco boats, gay boats, Octoberfest boats, barbecue boats, sundowner trips, and many more. From Hotel Ascot you reach the quay in just five minutes on foot.
Thermal Bath & Spa Zurich
The Thermal Spa Zurich offers an exciting reinterpretation of the more than 2000 year old Roman bathing culture. At this spa you can bask in warm waters either between the hundred-year-old stone vaults of the former Hürlimann beer brewery or in the rooftop pool with a great view over Zurich. The thermal water comes from a spring deep under in the city of Zurich and brings relaxation and well-being. You can reach the thermal bath after a short walk from FIFA Hotel Ascot.
Museum Rietberg consists of three 19th century mansions and is located in the Rieterpark, one of the most beautiful parks in Zurich. The museum offers works of art from Asia, Africa, America, and Oceania and receives around 90'000 visitors per year. You can reach the museum in just 10 minutes walking distance from FIFA Hotel Ascot.
Zurich Opera House is also located in the city center. It was opened on 1 October 1891 and seats 1100 people. In addition to opera, music theatre and ballet performances, the Zurich Opera House also hosts jazz concerts and recitals, matinees and philharmonic concerts. In September, the season opens with an open house day and, under the motto "Opera for all", a live opera performance is braodcast on the screen at Sechseläutenplatz every summer since 2014. From the FIFA Hotel Ascot you can reach the Zurich Opera House by tramway in less than 9 minutes.
Kunsthaus Zürich is the city's art museum. Its collection comprises 4000 paintings, sculptures and installations. Kunsthaus Zürich contains one of the most important art collections in Switzerland from the 13th century to the present day. Medieval sculptures and Baroque paintings are followed by the Swiss painters Segantini, Hodler and Vallotton. The collection's international treasures include the largest Munch collection outside Norway and the largest collection of works by Alberto Giacometti. Other modern highlights include paintings by Monet, Picasso, Chagall, Kokoschka, Beckmann, Warhol and Hamilton as well as works by Rothko, Twombly, Beuys and Baselitz. The Kunsthaus is only 9 minutes by tram from the FIFA Hotel Ascot.
Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse is internationally known as one of the most exclusive shopping streets in the world and connects the main railway station with Lake Zurich on a length of 1.4 km. On Bahnhofstrasse you will find numerous department stores, designer boutiques, jewellery and watch shops as well as the Paradeplatz, the heart of the Swiss banking world. In winter, stalls with mulled wine and hot chocolate invite you to warm up, in summer numerous street cafés offer cool drinks. You can reach the Bahnhofstrasse in only 10 minutes by tram.
High above the rooftops of Zurich, at 871 meters above sea level, lies the top of mount Uetliberg. It offers an exceptionally beautiful panoramic view over Zurich, the lake and the Limmat valley – all the way to the Alps. Mount Uetliberg is perfect for hiking and mountain biking - especially in the fall, when it lies above the autumnal fog cover. With public transport you will reach Uetliberg in just a half hour from Hotel Ascot, with the car in just twenty minutes.
